Chasing 153 for victory, Smith joined Sam Hain at the crease with the Bears in trouble at 49 for five, however an unbroken sixth wicket stand between Smith and Hain (48*) saw the Bears over the line by five wickets and with ten balls remaining.
The Bears’ win against Northants sees them end their competition with a sixth victory in seven games, with a slow start to the season ultimately costing them a place in the Quarter Finals.
On the day, Smith combined in a stand of 105 runs off 68 balls with Hain as the duo rebuilt in the middle overs before cutting loose.
“It's great to finish off the T20 campaign like that,” Smith said. “We didn't have the greatest start, but it’s been a very nice way to finish off this campaign.
“I was very lucky to have Sam [Hain] out there, who has got a lot of experience in situations like that.
“He's a great guy to learn from and he helped us steady the ship out there, so it was really nice batting with him. Then it was just about trying to take it ball-by-ball and seeing where it took us towards the end.”
Having opted to bat first, Northants’ Saif Zaib top-scored for the hosts with 37 off 24, and Luke Procter ended unbeaten on 33 from 25 to boost the total to 153, as they were bowled out off the final ball of the innings.
Stand-in captain Beau Webster was the pick of the bowlers for the Bears, taking three for 30 from his four overs, with all six bowlers used picking up at least one wicket.
In reply, Vansh Jani struck a quick-fire 26 off 12 balls, however three wickets from George Scrimshaw (three for 36) looked to have put Northants in the ascendency before Smith and Hain combined to make sure of a Bears win.
Smith’s opportunities to bat in recent weeks have been few and far between due to runs being scored at the top of the order, with the right-handed batter pleased to take his chance when it came.
“I’ve just had to stay patient, and that means always staying ready,” he added. “Making sure that all the work is done behind the scenes, during training sessions.
“You never know when you're going to get an opportunity and you want to make sure that you can grab it with both hands, so I was really pleased with that today.”
Warwickshire Bears have a short break before returning to the cinch County Ground to take on Northants in the Metro Bank One Day Cup on Tuesday 21 July.
