Kai Smith struck a double hundred as the Bears were unable to force a positive result against Glamorgan at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground.

The 19-year-old right-hander had played a leading role with Captain Jake Lintott opting to declare shortly after the wicket-keeper reached 200 (222 balls, 26 fours, two sixes) on 639/9.

But the Bears, who were replying to the visitor's first innings of 297, were unable to dismiss the Welsh side as blue skies finally arrived to Birmingham for the first time in 2024.

Opting to bat, Glamorgan were humbled on day one, with Lintott the pick of bowlers (4/47), putting them on the back foot throughout the contest.

Seven Bears batters would pass 30 in their response, but looking to make it back-to-back the hosts were thwarted.

Shaking hands on 549/6, Lintott (2/131) and Che Simmons (2/69) picked up a pair each, but the valiant efforts of Zen Malik (164), Ben Kellaway (111) and Dan Douthwaite (93) ensured points were shared.
