Boyd Rankin
BORN: 05/07/84, Derry
ROLE: Right-arm fast-medium; Left-hand bat
BEST TWENTY20 PERFORMANCE: 2-25 v England at Providence Stadium, 04/05/10
A metronomic seamer with a big heart who prides himself on his accuracy, it would be easy to assume that Rankin – who stands at 6’7” and cut his teeth in county cricket with Derbyshire before making the switch to Edgbaston in 2008 – would be better suited to the longer forms of the game. Not a bit of it, the genial Irishman has been a consistent performer for both Warwickshire and his country with the white ball and will provide the Bears’ Twenty20 seam attack with a crucial cutting edge. Renowned for his ability to extract bounce and movement from the most lifeless of pitches, Rankin has a knack for striking with the new ball and will provide a vital contrast with the left-arm swing bowling of Neil Carter.
