Ant Botha

BORN: 17/11/76, Pretoria, South Africa

ROLE: Left-hand bat; slow left-arm orthodox

BEST TWENTY20 PERFORMANCE: 4-14 v West Indies, Derby (playing for Derbyshire)

A feisty competitor who just loves the arena at Edgbaston, this South Africa-born bowling allrounder has proved a big hit with the Birmingham faithful after moving from Derbyshire for the start of the 2008 season. It was partly his qualities in limited overs cricket, where he was Derbyshire's Twenty20 player of the year in 2005 and 2006, that attracted Warwickshire to push for his signature. A superb fielder and a very useful lower order batsman with four first-class hundreds in the bank, Botha's all-action game - based around accurately delivered left-arm spinners - is ideally suited to the high-tempo craziness of Twenty20 cricket. A bubbly presence in the dressing room, Botha keeps the team ticking over on the field and off it.
