Carts Calls The Winner
Lifelong Warwickshire Member, Robert Barratt tonight left Edgbaston £10,000 richer after claiming the Bears Twenty20 treasure.
The announcement of the winner was made at the close of the play after the Bears had completed their victory against the Worcestershire Royals.
Robert, who is 47 and from Bearwood, made his first trip to Edgbaston aged 11 and was on his way home when he was told the news after leaving the game an over before the end of play.
Robert said, “I always leave a couple of balls before the end of play, I heard the announcements through the game but I just thought it won’t be me! I was just heading home when my friend called to say I had won, I thought he was winding me up, it wasn’t until Neil Carter came on the line that I thought this isn’t a joke.”
Neil Carter took the phone to try and convince Robert he was the real winner. Carts said, “When I spoke to him he sounded in shock but I told him he had 30 minutes to get back to the ground to get his money. When he finally turned up he was shaking with shock and he still couldn’t believe it even when he saw his name on the big cheque.”
Still in shock, Robert said, “I have only ever won £76 on the lottery so this is just amazing, I am totally gobsmacked.”
Robert headed home with a big smile on his face still in amazement at his eventful evening. Loyal Robert will be back at the ground on Tuesday for the LVCC match against Nottinghamshire not only £10,000 richer but a bigger Bears fan than ever before!
