Trott in Twenty20 action

A well-paced chase saw the Bears beat table-toppers Notts Outlaws by five wickets at Edgbaston.

The Bears inflicted a first FP t20 defeat of the season on Notts Outlaws at Edgbaston last night despite David Hussey's heroics as Jonathan Trott led Warwickshire to what was ultimately a comfortable five-wicket success. The win takes the Bears up to second place in the North Group behind the Outlaws.

Despite losing the toss, the Bears had started well, reducing the Outlaws to 40-4 before Aussie star David Hussey got going, plundering 81 from just 42 balls to get the visitors up to 176-6.

Home fans knew that this was only a par score, the self-same pitch having produced three scores out of three of around the 200 mark over the last six days and that confidence was boosted as Neil Carter and Jonathan Trott set about the Notts attack, racing to a stand of 74 in just 40 balls.

After Trott’s departure the Bears stuttered, losing three wickets for just eight runs, but Rikki Clarke and Ant Botha showed cool heads and long handles, putting on an unbroken 54 from just 29 balls to see the home side to victory with seven balls to spare.

The Bears will be looking to maintain their form in the local derby against the Royals at New Road on Friday night. Get along and support them if you can.
