DAY 3

Somerset were finally dismissed on the third morning for 183 with Phillips 55 and Kartik 32 adding the runs that gave them an overall lead of 311. Imran Tahir finished with 6-58 for the Bears.

In their second innings, Darren Maddy 3, was caught by Trescothick off Willoughby but Westwood 15 and Chopra 22 saw the Bears through to lunch without further loss on 42-1.

After lunch, Westwood and Chopra took the score on to sixty before a thin inside edge was well taken by a diving Kieswetter to dismiss Westwood 22, off Phillips and this heralded another middle order collapse as Troughton paddles Kartik to Hildreth at leg slip for seven and then Chopra was lbw to Thomas for forty six.

Clarke 1 and Botha 0 both went to Kartik as the Bears lost their sixth wicket with only ninety one on the board before bad light and rain brought an early tea with the Bears 117-6 still requiring a further 195 to win.

Play resumed after a two hour rain break and Kartik collected his fourth wicket when Woakes played back and was trapped lbw for twenty one. Johnson edged Willoughby to Trescothick at slip in the next over and then Kartik polished off the innings with wickets in consecutive balls as the Bears were dismissed for 130 to go down to a 181 run defeat in three days.

DAY 2

Warwickshire lost three more wickets on the second morning as they found scoring runs just as difficult as Somerset had on the opening day, going to lunch on 79-4 with Jim Troughton 24 not out.

Darren Maddy 3, was first to go, pulling Alfonso Thomas to Buttler and deep backward square-leg and when Varun Chopra edged Willoughby to Kieswetter for twenty seventhe Bears were 55-3.

Rikki Clarke 17, played some nicely timed shots through the on-side before being caught at slip by Kartik off Phillips just before lunch when Warwickshire were 79-4.

Jim Troughton went immediately after lunch for twenty seven as Kartik started to get alarming turn from a helpful wicket. Botha was bowled sweeping and Johnson helped a ball into Trescothick's hands at slip as the Bears faltered on 114-7.

Chris Woakes made a useful twenty one before falling to Kartik, who completed his fivefor when Imran's attempted slog was edged to Kieswtter.

Alfonso Thomas wrapped up the Bears' innings when Rankin became Trescothick's third slip catch and the innings closed on 140

In their second innings, Somerset lost Trescothick 4, lbw to the third delivery of the innings from Woakes and the young seamer collected a second wicket when Buttler went the same way.

Andy Miller then joined in, bowling Suppiah for eight as Somerset stuttered to 40-3 with an overall lead of 168.

The introduction of Imran from the City end brought a fourth wicket when Hildreth played back and was lbw for fourteen and with the dismissals of Kieswetter and Trego in quick succession Somerset were staggering on 70-6.

de Bruyn 24 was well caught off his own bowling by a diving Imran, to give the leg-spinner a fourth wicket, but Phillips, first with Thomas 12 and then with Kartik 11* closed the second day, unbeaten on forty four, as Somerset will go into the third day on 151-8 with an overall lead of 279.

DAY 1

After losing the toss at Edgbaston and fielding, Warwickshire went to lunch in a better mood on the opening day, after Somerset struggled against some accurate Bears’ bowling.
Suppiah was first to go for just two runs made in a fraction over ninety five minutes and on the stroke of lunch Clarke collected his second wicket when Buttler 1 edged to Westwood at third slip to leaver the visitors 61-2 in the thirtieth over.
Trescothick on forty eight also found progress difficult and had Varun Chopra held on to a relatively straight forward chance at mid-wicket from Maddy’s first ball of the day when the Somerset skipper was on thirty two, the Bears’ lunch might have been even tastier.

Trescothick completed his ffity but then became Clarke's third victim when he edged to Botha at slip for 53. Hildreth and de Bruyn added sixty eight before de Bruyn was trapped lbw by Woakes and innediately before tea Hildreth steered a lifter from Botha to Clarke at slip just after he'd completed his fifty. At tea Somerset were 161-5.

Ant Botha took a diving catch on the mid-wicket boundary to remove Trego 25, off Imran after the sixth wicket pair had accelerated the scoring rate after tea and then had both Kieswetter 40 and Phillips caught at short-leg by Chopra to leave Somerset 235-8.

Woakes picked up the last two wickets in an over as Somerset 's innings closed on 268, leaving the Bears three overs to face before the close.

With just three balls remaining, Willoughby fired in a short delivery that Ian Westwood 2 could only fend into the slip cordon where Hildreth took the catch to leave Warwickshire 2-1 at the close.
