DAY 3

An extraordinary spell of bowling by Stuart Broad from the City End destroyed the Bears on the third morning, after they had earlier dismissed Nottinghamshire for 389 to trail by seventy six runs.

The day started well for Warwickshire after Neil Carter picked up his fifth wicket,  when Mark Wagh chipped a full delivery to Troughton at point for 139, leaving Nottinghamshire with a first innings lead of seventy six.

Looking for a strong start to their second innings, Stuart Broad spoiled any hopes the Bears may have held, having both Westwood 0 and Trott4 caught in the gulley by Alex Hales with only four runs on the board.

In one of the most scintillating spells of quick bowling seen at the ground for many years, Broad destroyed the home side, taking seven wickets before lunch as the Bears collapsed to 36-7 still trailing by forty when the interval came.

Neil Carter and Tim Ambrose played some shots after lunch, before carter was caught on the cover boundary off Adams, while a superb Adams catch in the gulley off Broad removed Ambrose.

Imran was last man out run out by a direct hit from Mullaney as the second innings closed on 100 setting Nottinghamshire a target of just twenty five for victory.

Samit Patel and Alex Hales took just three overs to see Nottinghamshire to their target to bring them twenty one points to the Bears six with a 10 wicket win

DAY 2

Imran Tahir was awarded his county cap by Ian Westwood before the start of play on the second morning when Nottinghamshire resumed their innings on 18-0, replying to the Bears' 313.

Neil Carter struck early when Patel 1, played on, pushing back his leg stump in the first over of the day.

Alex Hales made a run-a-ball half century before flashing at a wider delivery and being caught at slip by Rikki Clarke.

David Hussey followed, for eight caught at third slip by Darren Maddy again off Carter, but former Warwickshire batsman, Mark Wagh 28 from 79 balls, now joined by Steven Mullaney 30, knuckled down to help take Nottinghamshire to lunch on 123-3

Two quick wickets after the interval from Boyd Rankin, removed Mullaney and Brown, as Notts slipped to 131-5, but Mark Wagh continued to bat steadily and partnered by Chris Read took the visitors through to tea on 226-5 with both men having completed half centuries.

The scoring rate accelerated after tea with the sixth wicket pair adding one hundred and fifty six for the wicket, before Carter had Read 83 caught by Clarke at slip and when Woakes removed Swann for just a single, Notts were 288-7.

Mark Wagh completed his second century for Nottinghamshire at Edgbaston, but immediately afterwards, Woakes dismissed Broad for a duck, when caught at mid-wicket by Rankin.

Andre Adams produced a spectacular hitting demonstration before Imran bowled him for thirty seven and last man Ryan Sidebottom brought Nottinghamshire a fourth batting point with a clip through the leg-side for four.

Mark Wagh 127* batted throughout the day and was starting to play more and more attacking shots, as Nottinghamshire closed the day on 373-9, with a lead of sixty

DAY 1

Chris Read put the Bears in  to bat at Edgbaston after winning the toss and with his three England bowlers available toger for the first time this season, went to lunch satisfied with his decision.

It was Read, taking the first of three morning catches, that removed Ant Botha 1, off Sidebottom and when Trott edged Broad to him for twenty one, the Bears were 28-2.

Trott had been given an earlier "life" when dropped at slip by Hussey off Broad but the Australian made no mistake when a second chance came his way, catching Westwood off Adams for seventeen.

Darren Maddy 20* and Jim Troughton appeared to have weathered the storm for the Bears before the lunch interval until Troughton 25 feathered a ball from Swann to Read to take the Bears to lunch on 96-4.

Immediately after the break, Maddy top-edged an attempted pull off Broad straight to Sidebottom on the long-leg boundary for twenty one.

The afternoon session followed much in line with the morning as the Bears batsmen Clarke 27 and Woakes 13 got in but then both fell to Adams before Carter 19* and Ambrose 28* took them to tea on 185-7.

After tea, Ambrose 34 found a lifter from Broad too good and Read took another catch, while Imran Tahir's hard hitting twenty nine helped add sixty three for the ninth wicket till Swann trapped Imran lbw.

Carter continued to blast away and took the Bears past three hundred and a third batting point, reacjhing ninety nine when Rankin was run out by a direct hit while backing up as he tried to react to a possible single that would have brought Carter a second first-class career century.

The Bears closed on 313 with Carter unbeaten on ninety nine and three batting points secured and by the close Notts were 18-0.
