Trott amongst the records as England draw

England and Australia drew the opening Ashes Series Test Match in Brisbane, after vice-captain Alastair Cook 235* and Warwickshire's Jonathan Trott 135* re-wrote the record books, with an unbeaten second wicket partnership of 329 in England's massive, 517-1 declared.

Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott set a series of records as England hit an extraordinary 517-1 on the final day of the first Ashes Test before declaring, with the match finally ending in the expected draw, as Australia replied with 107-1 having been set an unlikely 297 to win from 41 overs.

Cook and Trott's unbeaten partnership of 329 was the highest for any wicket by an England pair in Australia and the best in Brisbane, beating the short-lived previous record of 307 by Mike Hussey and Brad Haddin earlier in the same match.

Cook's 235 not out was the sixth best Ashes score by an Englishman whilst passing Sir Don Bradman for the highest score at the Gabba.

Cook and Trott, with his fourth Test century in only his fourteenth match for England and his second against Australia in just 2 matches, put on 329, the ninth highest England stand in history.
