Bears win at the Rosebowl
The Warwickshire Bears continued their impressive start to the season's Clydesdale Bank 40 programme with a seven wicket victory over the Hampshire Royals at the Rosebowl.
The Hampshire Royals won the toss and batted in the day/night match at the Rosebowl against a Bears’ side holding a 100% winning record in this year’s Clydesdale Bank 40 Group C competition.
Two early successes for Chris Woakes came as Carberry (1) flashed at a short delivery and edged to Ambrose, and Adams (1) followed when Darren Maddy took the catch at slip.
Boyd Rankin then removed both Ervine (35) and Vince (30) as the Royals looked to accelerate, and when skipper Pothas was lbw to Imran half the home side had gone for 115. A 50 partnership between Mckenzie and Dawson helped the Royals recover, but Maddy bowling at the stumps removed Dawson and Cork and with it Hampshire’s hopes of building a competitive total as they closed on 211-8 from their forty overs.
Excellent bowling and ground fielding were the key to the Bears’ performance on the night.

In reply, Neil Carter was bowled for 15 but Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell dominated the Royals bowlers, picking off singles at will and putting the Bears into an impregnable position in the match as they both completed half centuries in their second wicket stand of 155.
Bell (71), was finally out miscuing an attempted mid-wicket pull and Jim Troughton (14) followed with the winning line in sight. Jonathan Trott was left stranded on 96* when Tomlinson’s wide and no ball gave the Bears their winning runs to record their fourth consecutive victory in the competition. Trott was rightfully named Man-of-the-match by the SKY Sport team for this match-winning performance.
