Early morning rain in Birmingham did little to dampen the spirit of the Australia and Pakistan teams, who both warmed up in the dizzle and were keen to play as soon as possible. A serious effort from the Edgbaston ground staff saw play get under at 12:45, much to the delight of the players and very vocal fans in attendance, who brought the typical Stani Army fun and fancy dress to Edgbaston.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat. Opening pair David Warner and Aaron Finch set to work on the short boundary and got the Aussies off to a positive start with a plethora of boundaries. Pakistan finally got their breakthrough when wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed caught Warner behind from the bowling of Mohammed Amir, much to the appreciation of the Pakistan fans in attendance, who once again brought their signature fancy dress and fun atmosphere to Edgbaston.

Steve Smith replaced Warner and Smith look in good shape before the rain started to fall at Edgbaston, at which point umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Richard Illingworth suspended play. The inclement weather soon turned into a heavy downpour and with the future forecast looking incredibly bleak play was abandoned.
