The Bears moved to the top of the table in their group after a comprehensive seven wicket victory over Durham Dynamos at Edgbaston, with Jonathan Trott making a century and Jim Troughton unbeaten on sixty six.

Durham won the toss at Edgbaston and elected to bat first on a slow wicket against a Warwickshire Bears’ bowling attack that allowed the visiting batsmen, little width.

Ian Blackwell was in typically aggressive mood early on, striking a straight six before being bowled for twenty-two, in Boyd Rankin’s first over. Ian Westwood kept ringing the changes, never allowing the Durham batsmen to settle against an attack that kept a good line and length throughout the innings, and with wickets falling at regular intervals, only Phil Mustard appeared to be comfortable at the crease.

Imran Tahir cheaply removed Will Smith and Ben Stokes, after Keith Barker had Ben Harmison caught by Ian Bell, but when Mustard was finally lbw to Darren Maddy after reaching his half century, the remaining Dynamos’ batsmen found it difficult to score against the Bears’ tight bowling. Maddy 3-25, Barker 2-35, Imran 2-24 and Rankin 2-18 left the Dynamos setting the Bears a target of 201 for victory.

In their reply, the Bears lost Neil Carter first ball and Bell thirteen, was caught on the square-leg boundary, before Trott and Troughton steered them to within 25 runs of a victory when Trott, having just completed his century, was run out by a direct hit from Ben Harmison after a sharp call from Troughton left him failing to make his ground.

Darren Maddy 13* joined Jim Troughton 66* and they quickly saw the Bears home in the thirty fifth over with seven wickets in hand and maintaining their one hundred percent record in this year’s competition.
