Bears see off Scotland
The Warwickshire Bears travelled to Glasgow to play Scotland in the Clydesdale Bank 40 Division C and were victors by 7 wickets after bowling Scotland out for 95
After winning the toss and batting at Titwood, Glasgow, Scotland found progress difficult against the Group C leaders, despite posting an encouraging opening partnership of twenty nine between Watts and Mommsen.
Chris Woakes made a double breakthrough trapping both Watts 12 and Bailey, without scoring, in the sixth over with the total on twenty nine.
From this time, Scotland never fully recovered as all the Bears’ bowlers found success as the home side struggled to reach a hundred and set any real defendable total.
Only Matthew Parker, unbeaten on twenty two offered any real resistance, while he saw a succession of partners disappear back to the Pavilion as Scotland’s innings closed in the thirtieth over for just ninety five.
Parker gave the home side some hopes of springing a surprise, in the second over when Neil Carter went for four, and after a couple of strong strikes from Barker he followed for twelve five overs later.
Darren Maddy and Jim Troughton 28 added fifty two for the third wicket before Troughton played on off Ross Lyons’ bowling with just sixteen runs needed for victory.
Darren Maddy 43* and Ian Westwood 7* comfortably completed the task of making the necessary runs for victory to record a seven wickets in the twenty first over to keep the Bears top of the table
