Bears Gear Up For One-Day Cricket
Warwickshire are targeting their upcoming Second XI Trophy match against the MCC Young Cricketers as a chance to fine-tune their limited-overs plans.
The Bears First XI kick-off their one-day campaign against Kent Spitfires at Canterbury on 25 April and Director of Cricket Ashley Giles is hoping to use the match against the MCC YC, which takes place on 22 April at High Wycombe, as a forum to test his preferred one-day side.
Giles has named an extremely strong squad for the High Wycombe match, which is scheduled to be played over 50 overs. The 14 includes opening batsman Darren Maddy, who celebrated his return to fitness following a serious facial injury by scoring a double-century against the same opposition in the recent Second XI Championship match.
Also named in the squad are Keith Barker, who turned in an impressive performance with the ball in the same match, and overseas leg-spinner Imran Tahir.
Giles commented: “This is a great chance for us to have a look at some one-day tactics before we play Kent on Sunday. We will take the 14-man squad and look at our options ahead of the first CB40 fixture.
“It’s great to see Madds in the runs and I am sure he is delighted to be in the middle after his injury troubles over the last few years. We are looking to improve our one-day game this summer and with a new competition it gives us a fresh chance to win some silverware. We have a strong squad to pick from and we will want to start well against the Spitfires this weekend.”
