Bears Extend Cure Leukaemia Support

  • 24/05/2010

The profile of Birmingham-based Cure Leukaemia is getting a huge boost from Warwickshire Bears players who will be sporting the name of the charity on their playing shirts in the LV County Championship matches in 2010.

For the past few years Warwickshire County Cricket Club has been a key charity partner of Cure Leukaemia which funds research into blood cancers at its base at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

The players pay regular visits to the centre and give up their time to attend fund raising events, and director of cricket Ashley Giles says the club is delighted to be extending its partnership with Cure Leukaemia.

Ashley is Patron of the charity as well as being a former Warwickshire and England player, and said: “We have supported Cure Leukaemia for several years and this latest move recognises the fantastic work the charity does in supporting research into a disease which hits over 7,000 people in the West Midlands each year”.

Jackie Kelly, General Manager at Cure Leukaemia, said: “The Bears’ players have been great supporters of Cure Leukaemia in the past and because they will now carry our logos in the matches they play all over the country it means a wider recognition and higher profile for the charity and hopefully will lead to an increase in funds for much-needed research, so we are extremely grateful to the Club for their fantastic ongoing support.
