62 Mile Charity Canal Walkers Welcomed To Edgbaston By Darren Maddy
Dave Baker, Darren Peacock, Paul Crutchley and ‘Baker’ the Dog arrived at the County Ground to be welcomed by over 30 Hanford Cricket Club members and Warwickshire’s Darren Maddy.
‘Club Together’ members Hanford Cricket Club were given a warm welcome at Edgbaston today after a 62 mile charity canal walk.
Brian Cowan from Hanford Cricket Club, who has helped organise the charity Walk said:
‘This event has helped raise over £1000 for our club. We have over 60 young members who play at the club at the moment and we are always looking for ways to raise money to keep our club running, especially over the winter months'
The Club mascot Baker the Dog, named after a young cricketer of Hanford CC who tragically lost his life last year, seemed as thrilled as the men on their accomplishment, if not a little hyper after all the attention.
Hanford Cricket Club joined the Club Together scheme this season, which provides outside county Cricket Clubs similar benefits to Warwickshire Clubs affiliating to the Board. The scheme allowed free entry to today’s CB40 fixture at Edgbaston, for members of the club and friends and family of the walkers.
Although the weather was a little colder than hoped for, Edgbaston certainly gave the group a warm welcome. A leisurely afternoon watching the Warwickshire Bears battle the Northants Steelbacks also proved a satisfactory and relaxing reward for their dedicated efforts.
