For the second year running, Edgbaston Foundation have partnered with WCCC, Birmingham Bears and Selco Builders Warehouse to produce 500 plastic cricket bats and balls. The Bat Giveaway has been designed to provide the opportunity for many young people aged 12 and under across Birmingham to access cricket. A barrier to taking up the sport of cricket is sourcing the equipment needed to play. By removing this barrier and providing bats and balls to the young people of this city, we can encourage and provide the opportunity for increased engagement in the sport.
This year, the Bat Giveaway will give the chance for parents of children under 12 to register for a free bat. Those that are successfully registered will be asked to collect their free bat at Edgbaston Foundation Community Day on 25th June. On the day those registered for a bat will also be given the opportunity to join in with some cricket activities with our coaches. The young people will also be given information on how to play more cricket and how to get involved with local cricket clubs in their area.
As well as the Bat Giveaway, this year's Community Day will include cricket skills workshops, a funfair and a chance to meet the Warwickshire and Birmingham Bears players as part of an open training session.
The format of the day is:
10am – Gates Open
11am – Open Training Session with the Birmingham Bears Squad
1pm – Warwickshire Visual Impairment Team Demonstration
1pm – 5pm – Inflatable Fun Fair Open
Registration for the Bat Giveaway is currently closed - there will be more opportunities throughout the summer to register.
