Winning the toss and batting first the Bears made a strong start until Porterfield skyed Lee to Tripathi at mid-off for twenty four and then Troughton was caught at extra-cover by Park off the Bears' skipper's first ball.
Tim Ambrose 28, shared in a third wicket partnership of forty seven with opener Varun Chopra, while next man in Darren Maddy and Chopra added fifty seven before Chopra 69 was bowled by Beaven when the Bears' opener having given himself space to cut, lost his off stump.
Darren Maddy then took charge while wickets tumbled, with Clarke 2 and Woakes 4 falling to Cheetham. Best Barker and Patel played minor roles in a late innings surge that took the total to 228-9 from the forrty overs, as Maddy hammered an unbeaten seventy nine from just fifty six balls with eight fours and two sixes.
In reply the Unicorns found progress difficult against accurate bowling and wickets fell regularly to Woakes 3-30 reducing the visitors to 25-3 in the eighth over and despite a partnership of seventy one in 118 balls between Parsons 58 and New 31, the target proved too great for the Unicorns batsmen.
Two terrific run outs by Riki Clarke put paid to any remote chance the Unicorns had of reaching their target and with Best and Patel picking up a wicket apiece, the innings closed on 168-7 from their forty overs, leaving the Bears winners by sixty runs.
