60 Schools get exclusive tour at Visitor & Learning Centre Launch
Edgbaston Stadium welcomed representatives from 60 local schools last night as it staged the official opening of the interactive Visitor & Learning Centre in the new Pavilion Stand.
Included as part of the venue’s £32 million redevelopment, the Centre gives visitors an opportunity to discover cricket, as well as the history of Warwickshire CCC and international matches at Edgbaston in a fun filled way, with quiz’s, interactive games and a viewing theatre with a film of the Club’s and Venue’s greatest moments.
The representatives were also given a behind the scenes tour of the new Edgbaston, including the player’s dressing rooms, Media Centre, Hospitality Suites and Museum. They also visited Edgbaston’s Indoor Cricket Centre and got to see the new classroom facility, with computers which can be utilised by schools.
Colin Povey, Chief Executive at Edgbaston Stadium, said: “As a world-class venue that’s hosting some of the biggest cricket matches over the next five years, we want to make Edgbaston widely available to the local community to utilise our new facilities, whether it be for tours, coaching or watching cricket.
“We invested in the Visitor & Learning Centre so we could create an engaging experience that can appeal to all guests of all ages, whether they’re a cricket fanatic or new to the game. We were delighted that this launch was so well attended and hope that many pupils of the teachers in attendance will be able to visit us in the coming months.”
The Visitor & Learning Centre at Edgbaston was completed by Mather & Co, which also completed interactive visitor experiences at the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum, the Chelsea Football Club Museum and the Audience with Sir Alex Ferguson experience at Manchester United’s Old Trafford Museum.
