A strong Warwickshire second eleven won the toss and batted first at Coventry and North Warwickshire C.C. and with Ian Westwood and Laurie Evans 20 scoring freely the opening pair got the home side off to a good start.
Westwood 33 was trapped lbw to a ball that kept low and after Coleman 15 and Evans followed, Richard Johnson and Ateeq Javid 26 took Warwickshire to lunch without further loss.
Johnson was in fine form, hitting the ball cleanly through both sides of the wicket and his eighty four was the backbone of the Bears' final total of 247 made in 82.5 overs.
For the Lions, Majid Haq was the most successful bowler, finishing with 4-28.
In reply Scotland found the going tough against some accurate seam bowling from Tom Milnes 3-8 and Andrew Miller 2-35 as they closed the day on 55-5 trailing by 192 runs.
