Jeetan Patel favourite for MVP title

Jeetan Patel’s eight-wicket match haul against Somerset at Taunton has kept Warwickshire in the race for the LV= County Championship (LV=CC) and himself in contention to be crowned the Most Valuable Player in county cricket for 2014.

Patel has moved to within 20 points of long-time MVP leader Darren Stevens and, unlike his Kent rival, he has the opportunity to earn more Ranking-points at NatWest T20 Finals Day, which takes place at his home ground of Edgbaston this coming Saturday.

Boasting 51 wickets in the LV=CC, 23 in the NatWest T20 Blast and 14 in the Royal London One-Day Cup, Patel is currently the leading wicket-taker in county cricket, with Glamorgan’s Michael Hogan second with 86 wickets Alfonso Thomas of Somerset third-highest with 66.

However, Patel has also chipped in with 507 runs; 436 of which have come in the LV=CC including a game-changing 105 against Middlesex at Edgbaston in May.

The current rankings have Patel in second in both the overall and the LV=CC FTI MVP and 10th in the NatWest T20 Blast FTI MVP where he’s taken 23 wickets and conceded runs at just 5.64 runs per over.

The winner of the overall MVP joins the esteemed list below and walks away with a cheque for £10,000. For a full breakdown of Jeetan Patel’s season click here:
