Jeetan Patel moves into contention in MVP Rankings

Jeetan Patel returned his first five-wicket haul of the season to move Warwickshire into contention in the LV County Championship (LV=CC) and put himself in the frame for County Cricket’s Most Valuable Player Award.

Patel took 5-49 in bowling Warwickshire to victory over Durham and is now fifth in the overall county FTI MVP Rankings and third in the LV=CC FTI MVP. Patel is the top-placed frontline spinner in the Rankings and could be a real force in the second half of the season as pitches become more conducive to his style of bowling.

He has been more consistent than eye-catching during the first half of the season but has usually performed when the team needs him most. He has scored 384 LV=CC runs including 105 in the win over Middlesex and taken 38 wickets.

Patel is ranked 11th in the NatWest t20 Blast FTI MVP where he has taken 17 wickets and conceded runs at just 5.74 runs per over. His last three matches have seen him return figures of 4-0-19-3 against Northants, 4-0-16-3 versus Notts and 3-0-17-2 against Worcestershire. His best, though, was against Lancashire in the Birmingham Bears’ opening fixture: 4-0-15-3.

The winner of the overall MVP joins the esteemed list below and walks away with a cheque for £10,000. For a full breakdown of Jeetan Patel’s season click here: http://www.thepca.co.uk/player-rankings.html?nid=3301
