Yorkshire Vikings v Birmingham Bears, NatWest T20 Blast

Yorkshire won the toss and chose to bat at Headingley with both sides needing victory to maintain their hopes of progress in the competition, but lost Australian Aaron Finch in the third over when Javid took the catch off Rikki Clarke for 13.

At the end of the fielding restrictions Yorkshire were 44-1 but then lost Lees 15 in the next over when he was stumped by Ambrose off Patel.

Kane Williamson was lbw to Patel for 24 and the New Zealand spinner then bowled Andrew Gale and Adam Lyth with his next two deliveries to complete the first hat-trick in t20 cricket of his career as Yorkshire stuttered on 62-5 in the ninth over.

Bairstow was next to go, for 12 off Javid but then Tim Bresnan 45* and Adil Rashid 29* posted an unbeaten partnership of 68 from 44 balls to take Yorkshire to a total of 147-6 from their 20 overs.

Jeetan Patel’s four overs cost just 19 runs with four wickets.

In reply William Porterfield 4 went early driving Bresnan to Gale in the second over and Webb followed off the final ball of the next over when skying Sidebottom to Finch for 15.

Sidebottom struck again in his next over as Ambrose was well caught by Alex Lees for six as the Bears struggled to 34-3 from the six overs of the power-play.

Finding runs difficult, Chopra 9 flicked Rafiq to Pyrah at short mid-on with the Bears 40-4 after eight overs.

Laurie Evans hit Rafiq for a huge six into the Rugby ground and followed it up with consecutive boundaries and then Rikki Clarke followed with two sixes before a top edge from a Rashid long-hop was caught by Rafiq with the Bears 83-5 after 13 overs.

With 38 required from the last three overs Evans hit three fours in the 18th over and then completed his 50 from the first ball of the 19th over with another four followed by a four through third man leaving 14 runs required off eight balls.

Laurie Evans then hit the final ball of the over for six with a scoop shot over fine leg from Sidebottom’s last delivery.

With seven needed from Bresnan’s final over, Javid took a single from the first ball, bringing Evans on to strike who then took a single leaving five needed from four balls.

Javid took one from the next ball and Evans then thumped Bresnan away for the winning runs with a four to leave the Bears winners by 5 wickets with two balls to spare. Laurie Evans finished unbeaten on 69 and Ateeq Javid 19 as the sixth wicket pair added 65 runs in an unbeaten partnership from exactly seven overs.
