Mascots Race returns to Edgbaston at Bears v Rapids
Edgbaston’s own Hugh and Carmen Bears are set to be joined by the mascots of Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Walsall, Wolves and Worcestershire Rapids this coming Friday for the Cure Leukaemia Mascot Race.
During the interval of the Birmingham Bears all-important local derby against Worcestershire Rapids in the NatWest T20 Blast, the mascots will take to the field to race in-front of Edgbaston’ biggest domestic crowd of the season.
Tom Rawlings, Communications Manager at Warwickshire CCC, said: “The Mascot Race was originally scheduled at our match against Yorkshire Vikings in May, but due to bad weather we’ve rescheduled to our biggest match of the season against our local rivals.
“We’ve got an expanded field in this year’s mascot derby, which we’ve renamed in honour of our Lead Charity Partner, Cure Leukaemia. Last year’s race was a thriller with Carmen Bear narrowly beating Wolfie to the line in a photo finish. We’re hoping for more of the same this Friday, in what will be a great way to start the weekend.”
The runners in the 2014 Cure Leukaemia Mascot Race, including Hugh and Carmen Bar, Hercules and Bella of Aston Villa, Beau and Belle Brummie of Birmingham City, Swifty of Walsall, Wolfie and Wendy of Wolves, Nile the Crocodile of Worcestershire Rapids and Wicktopus of Octopus Investments.
The Birmingham Bears NatWest T20 Blast match against the Worcestershire Rapids starts at 6.30pm with the mascot race taking place during the interval at around 7.45pm. Supporters can save £7 on tickets for the match by purchasing in advance at £15 for Adults (£22 on the gate) whilst Under 16s are £5 at all times.
