Bears to honour Bell with on-field presentation at Friday’s NatWest T20 Blast match with Lancashire Lightning

Ian Bell leading England out at Headingley for his 100th Test Match

Bears’ and England star Ian Bell is set to be honoured by Club staff, Members and supporters at Friday’s NatWest T20 Blast match against Lancashire Lightning at Edgbaston, in recognition of becoming our first international cricketer to win 100 Test Match caps.

Bell (32) became only the 12th Englishman in history to win 100 Test caps during England’s recent match at Headingley against Sri Lanka, and he will be presented with a special commemorative scroll to mark his Honorary Life Membership on the outfield, in front of the Tom Dollery Members’ Lounge, during the interval of the Birmingham Bears fourth home game of the NatWest T20 Blast.

Norman Gascoigne, Chairman of Warwickshire CCC, said: “Ian is a great servant and ambassador of Warwickshire CCC and this is the first time in the Club’s history that we have awarded an Honorary Life Membership to a current member of the playing squad; all previous awards have been made at the end of a playing career.

“He is one of the best batsmen in the world and we’re very proud of everything that he has achieved in the game. This Honorary Life Membership presentation is a part of a series of celebrations that we have to recognise his 100 Test caps.

“We hope that many Members and supporters are able to join us on Friday evening to show their appreciation for Ian and this remarkable achievement.”

Bell first played for Warwickshire in the Warwickshire Cricket Board’s Under 11s team, and went on to progress through the development programme to make his First Class debut against Sussex at Edgbaston in 1999.

In the 2001 season he entered the record books by becoming the youngest player to score a First Class Century for Warwickshire, with 130 against Oxford UCCE aged 19 years and 56 days, and later that season also became our youngest capped player.

He has since gone on to amass 16,641 First Class runs with 47 centuries, 20 of which have been made in his 100 Tests played for England.

The presentation will take place immediately after the first innings of the Birmingham Bears NatWest T20 Blast match against Lancashire Lightning.

Tickets are available priced at £15 in advance for Adults (£22 on the gate) whilst Under 16s are £5 at all times. Click here or call the Ticket Hotline on 0844 847 1902 to purchase.
