Derbyshire Falcons v Birmingham Bears, NatWest T20 Blast
After defeat in the last match at Worcester, the Bears were looking to get back on track against Derbyshire Falcons where they were asked to bat after losing the toss.
Varun Chopra 35 from 30 balls and William Porterfield put on a century first wicket partnership from just 64 deliveries and with Jonathon Webb looking to keep the scoring rate ticking over, Porterfield 74 was dismissed 16 balls later after hitting three sixes and seven fours in his 41 ball innings.
Webb completed his 50 before becoming the second of three run outs in the final over of the innings after Shoaib Malik 25 fell to the first ball, and Rikki Clarke 0 followed off the final ball as the Bears closed on 189-7 from their 20 overs.
At the beginning of their reply, Derbyshire lost Chesney Hughes to Rikki Clarke’s first ball of the innings and Gareth Cross followed four overs later to Woakes, but Wes Durston’s half century off 21 balls with five fours and four sixes got Derbyshire ahead of the required rate.
Despite North going cheaply, Madsen 42, and Alex Hughes 24 took the home side to the verge of victory, which was finally achieved with an over to spare as Palladino and Wainwright saw them over the line and inflicted a three wicket defeat on the Bears.
