Ahead of the first NatWest T20 Blast match at Edgbaston this coming Friday against Yorkshire Vikings, Birmingham Bears’ Official Partner Octopus Investments recently gave wannabe cricketers a chance to try their arm at fast bowling in the city centre.

Birmingham Bears’ fast bowlers Oliver Hannon-Dalby and Tom Milnes, along with batsman William Porterfield, joined Club mascots Hugh and Carmen Bear and Octopus Investments’ mascot to give members of the public the chance to have their bowling speed measured in a cricket training facility in Victoria Square.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby said: “There’s a real buzz around T20 cricket this year with the introduction of the new NatWest T20 Blast tournament and the majority of our games being played on Friday nights.

“It’s always great to take the game into the City Centre and it’s good to hear that a lot of the people who tried their hand at fast bowling have already booked tickets and are coming along to support the Bears this coming Friday at Edgbaston. We’re all looking forward to taking on the Vikings.”

As part of the promotion, Octopus Investments gave away tickets to Friday night’s NatWest T20 Blast match between the Bears and the Vikings to those able to clock 50mph or more on the speed gun.

Nigel Spencer, Marketing Director at Octopus Investments, said: “The Bowlathon has proved to be a fantastic way to engage not only with cricket fans but with the wider public too. T20 is a dynamic format which takes the exhilarating game of cricket to both existing fans and a fresh audience, so it’s great to see so many people getting involved and excited by the sport through the Bowlathon. We expect to see lots of people cheering on the Birmingham Bears at Edgbaston over the coming weeks – it’s going to be a great season.”

Supporters can save £7 on tickets for the Birmingham Bears vs Yorkshire Vikings by purchasing in advance at £15 for Adults (£22 on the gate), while Under 16 tickets are £5 at all times.

Additionally a Double Whammy deal is available for the Bears’ first two NatWest T20 Blast matches on Friday nights, priced at £25. To purchase tickets to watch the Birmingham Bears in the NatWest T20 Blast, visit www.edgbaston.com/tickets or call the Ticket Hotline on 0844 847 1902.
