Cure Leukaemia named as lead Charity Partner for Birmingham Bears ahead of NatWest T20 Blast Off

With just one week to go until the first NatWest T20 Blast match at Edgbaston Stadium, Cure Leukaemia have been named as the Birmingham Bears Lead Charity Partner for the new look domestic cricket competition.

Cure Leukaemia and Warwickshire County Cricket Club have been working in partnership for several years and the Club intends to raise £25k for the charity by donating part of its ticket revenues from the seven NatWest T20 Blast home games it hosts at Edgbaston.

Gareth Roberts, Commercial Director at Warwickshire CCC, said: “Cure Leukaemia is a long-standing partner of the Club because of the incredible work that it does in providing revolutionary new treatments and hope for patients.

“With Friday night matches, live music, mascot races and entertainment for people of all ages, we recognise the NatWest T20 Blast as a great platform to further promote great work of Cure Leukaemia. Advance ticket sales are currently at record levels for domestic T20 cricket at Edgbaston and we're very excited about ‘Blast Off’ next Friday and raising more funds for this great charity.”

The Bears get underway in the NatWest T20 Blast against Yorkshire Vikings on Friday 23 May and, in total, play five of their seven home matches on Friday nights, including the all-important West Midlands Derby against Worcestershire Rapids on Friday 11 July.

As well as plans to raise £25k for the charity, Cure Leukaemia will run half time challenges with local footballing legends at two Birmingham Bears home games in support of its Club Legends Cup football tournament at the LG Arena on 12 July.

James McLaughlin, Chief Executive of Cure Leukaemia, said: “We’re grateful for the continued support of Warwickshire County Cricket Club, who have raised more than £125,000 through partnership activities in the last three years to support our life-saving work across the West Midlands.

“The NatWest T20 Blast is an excellent new tournament that our many partners and supporters are excited about. We’re all looking forward to our Friday nights at Edgbaston and hopefully roaring the Bears on to Finals Day.”

Supporters can save £7 on tickets for the Birmingham Bears v Yorkshire Vikings by purchasing in advance at £15 for Adults (£22 on the gate) whilst Under 16 tickets are £5 at all times. Additionally a Double Whammy deal is available for the Bears’ first two NatWest T20 Blast matches on Friday nights, priced at £25.
