West Midlands Mascot Derby returns for Bears’ first NatWest T20 Blast Match

The runners line up at Edgbaston for last year's West Midlands Mascot Derby

Following popular demand, the West Midlands Mascot Derby is returning to Edgbaston Stadium on Friday 23 May when the Birmingham Bears play their first match in the NatWest T20 Blast against the Yorkshire Vikings.

After Edgbaston’s own Carmen Bear took the honours in the inaugural 2013 race, she will be joined by fellow Bear Hugh, Aston Villa’s Hercules and Bella, Birmingham City’s Beau Brummie, Coventry City’s Sky Blue Sam, Walsall’s Swifty, West Bromwich Albion’s Baggie and Albi Bird, and Wolves’ Wolfie in an extended competition.

Tom Rawlings, Communications Manager at Warwickshire CCC, said: “Last year’s race was a thriller with Carmen Bear beating Wolfie in a photo finish, and following the great reaction from our supporters we’ve expanded to 10 runners this year.

“Our seven matches in the new NatWest T20 Blast competition are spread out over three months and, with five matches scheduled on Friday nights, live bands and half-time entertainment, it’s the perfect way to start the weekend.”

The Birmingham Bears first match against Yorkshire Vikings starts at 6.30pm, with the interval and mascot race happening at around 7.45pm.

Supporters can save £7 on tickets for the Birmingham Bears v Yorkshire Vikings by purchasing in advance at £15 for Adults (£22 on the gate) whilst Under 16s are £5 at all times. Additionally a Double Whammy deal is available for the Bears’ first two NatWest T20 Blast matches on Friday nights, priced at £25.
