MCC Young Cricketers v Warwickshire 2nd XI SE Trophy

Warwickshire won the toss in their first Trophy match of the season and chose to field first, making their first break through in the eighth over when Recordo Gordon bowled Gough for 15.

He then had Shafique caught by Freddie Coleman without scoring, but a partnership of 79 for the third wicket in 14 overs held Warwickshire up until another Coleman catch off Richard Jones brought Renshaw’s innings to a close for 30.

Paul Best had Arthurton lbw for one before MCC skipper Piesley was out to a Tom Lewis catch off Poysden for 68.

Some late order hitting from Getkate 28 and Hampton 39 helped the MCC to finally reach 230-9 from their 50 overs with Gordon 3-39 and Phagura 3-53 the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, Lewis 5 went early, but a partnership of 70 for the second wicket between Webb 44 and Coleman 41 backed up by Sam Hain’s half century looked to be setting Warwickshire up for a comfortable win. However, a clatter of wickets in the middle order saw Warwickshire needing 11 to win from the final four deliveries with just one wicket to spare.

Recordo Gordon 14* with two fours and a six got Warwickshire home with a ball to spare.
