Combined Kent/Northants 2nd XI v Warwickshire 2nd XI – Friendly
Warwickshire continued batting on the final morning with Ateeq Javid completing his double century before being dismissed and with Sam Hain on 97* they declared on 498-8.
In their second innings, with little or no chance of any result, Geraint Jones completed his century for Kent/Northants and when they declared on 229-3 the match ended as a draw.
Resuming on the second morning, Tom Lewis and William Porterfield took the score on to 80 before Lewis 38 was lbw bringing Ateeq Javid to the wicket.
He and Porterfield added 172 for the third wicket before Porterfield 118 became the third lbw dismissal. Porterfield’s innings included 16 fours and two sixes.
Sam Hain joined Javid and they batted through the remainder of the day, with Javid unbeaten on 160 at the close with twenty fours and a six while Hain was on forty nine with Warwickshire 378-3 with one day remaining.
Warwickshire’s 2nd XI began their 2014 season with a trip to Canterbury to play the Combined Kent and Northamptonshire 2nd XI’s and fielded first after losing the toss.
The home side made a strong start, reaching 106-1 but Warwickshire made inroads into the middle order to reduce them to 146-5 before Oliver Stone 112 took control, helping the Combined side reach 326-9dec from ninety four overs.
For Warwickshire, Aron Thomason 3-46, Brinder Thagura 3-47 and Richard Jones 2-67 were the pick of the bowlers.
In the eight overs remaining in the day, Ian Westwood was dismissed second ball but by the close Warwickshire had reached 10-1.
