George XI take County Indoor Final honours
The Edgbaston Indoor Centre recently staged the annual Warwickshire Cricket Board’s County Indoor Finals with four teams qualifying from their respective local leagues; Kings Heath (Bournville League), George VI (Tudor Grange League), Coleshill (Coventry League), Warwick University (Coventry League).
Kings Heath batted first in the first game of the day, v Coleshill, and scored 100-5, with Pembleton top scoring with 28 runs and Khan being Coleshill’s leading bowler with figures of 3-11 off three overs. The Bournville League champions proved too strong for the Coventry League team with Coleshill all out for 51 in 8.1 overs, with Warden being the pick of the bowlers with two wickets.
The second game also proved to be one-sided with George VI putting Warwick University to the sword. Warwick University could only make 61 runs in their 10 overs batting first, and the George VI scored the runs comfortably and finished the semi-final in seven overs. J Nandra top scored with 20.
Kings Heath elected to bat first in the final and started strongly, with Jefferies and Thomas both retiring on 26 runs before the innings closed on 105 runs. The Birmingham team then started strongly with the ball, by taking a wicket in the first over. However, the Nandra brothers steadied the ship for the George VI, with both retiring on 25 not out. This left Noartra to bring the game home with a solid knock of 27.
The County Indoor Leagues are played across the county, with more than 30 teams and 300 players taking part across the four leagues in 2014.
