Day 2

Declaring on their overnight total and with little chance of any positive result for either side, Warwickshire gave their bowlers an opportunity on the final day to put in some useful overs before their first LV= County Championship match on Sunday.

Lloyd Sabin, Steve Leach and Wilf Marriott all made starts but fell in their 20s, while a half century partnership for the eighth wicket between James Poulson 40 and Sam Weller 18* kept Warwickshire at bay.

Chris Wright , Jonathan Trott and Richard Jones, each took two wickets, while Hannon-Dalby, Barker and Clarke took one apiece, before an early declaration on 181-9 from Oxford brought the match to a conclusion as a draw.

Day 1

After their opening day of the First Class season had been lost to the weather, Warwickshire won the toss on the second morning at the Parks and chose to bat against an MCCU side who were giving First Class debuts to three players.

Laurie Evans partnered Varun Chopra and with a bitterly cold wind sweeping across the ground, was soon into the form that was shown often in the previous season, reaching his 50 with successive boundaries.

Chopra too was in good touch and took full advantage of some friendly bowling to reach his half century before lunch, while Evans was just three runs short of his century at the interval, with the Bears 154-0.

With a century beckoning, Evans fell in the fourth over of the afternoon session when Sam Weller trapped him lbw for 98 to end the opening partnership on 170-1.

A fine back-pedalling catch from wicketkeeper Jasper Davies brought an end to Varun Chopra 71, after he top edged an attempted pull and Weller collected a second wicket when Jonathan Trott, eight, clipped the ball behind square on the on-side, straight to Johny Marsden running in from the boundary.

Tim Ambrose, 11, drove Matthew Kidd straight to mid-wicket to give the bowler a maiden First Class wicket and Riki Clarke, 24, was lbw to James Poulson who then bowled Keith Barker for four, as the MCCU side picked up a sixth wicket in the session.

Ateeq Javid held firm and completed his fifty before Weller picked up his third wicket when Javid was lbw for 75.

An unbeaten partnership of sixty one between Paul Best 50* and Richard Jones 21* on debut took Warwickshire to a total of 388-7 at the close of the second day.
