Local umpires get first pro game at Edgbaston
Whilst rain may have affected the team’s plans during our two-day friendly against Gloucestershire at Edgbaston, the game was a major highlight for umpires Mark Gumbley and Mansoor Qureshi who officiated a County First Team fixture for the first time.
Both Mark and Mansoor umpire in the Birmingham & District Premier League and are part of the County Second Team roster. They recently underwent the Level 3 course, which is recognised as the stepping-stone between recreational and professional umpiring, and are currently the only two umpires with this qualification in Warwickshire.
Mark, from Kings Heath, began umpiring 10 years ago in the Warwickshire League before being fast-tracked in to the Birmingham & District Premier League just two years later.
Mansoor enjoyed a playing career with Mitchells & Butlers at the Portland Road Ground, which the Club has recently acquired, before turning to umpiring seven years ago.
Both umpires have ambitions to umpire professionally and hope to join the ECB’s Emerging Umpires Programme in the future.
