Bell called up to England’s ICC World T20 squad

Warwickshire batsman Ian Bell will replace the injured Joe Root in England’s squad for the upcoming ICC World T20.

Bell, who has won seven IT20 caps for England, joined the touring party last week as injury cover for the three IT20s against the West Indies in Barbados. Following confirmation of Root’s broken thumb, the World T20 Event Technical Committee has approved Bell’s inclusion in the tournament squad.

Root suffered a broken thumb during his innings of 107 in the final one-day international against West Indies in Antigua last week and flew home immediately from the Caribbean. Following a consultation with a specialist, he was ruled out of the tournament.

England’s opening match of the World T20 is against New Zealand on Saturday, March 22.
