Warwickshire confirm return to Rugby School in 2014 for 50-over fixture
Warwickshire County Cricket Club has confirmed that it will return to Rugby School in 2014 for a Royal London One-Day Cup (50 overs per side) contest with Kent on Sunday 10th August.
The Bears played their inaugural first team match at Rugby School in July this year when they faced Glamorgan in a sold out twenty20 fixture. However, the success of the day has led to the Club returning to Rugby to play the longer form of limited overs cricket during the school holidays.
Gareth Roberts, Commercial Director at Edgbaston, said: “We’ve been in discussions to return to Rugby School since the twenty20 match in July. All tickets sold out two weeks in advance, proving the great appetite for staging Warwickshire fixtures in this part of the county, and we were very keen to reward these supporters.
“Rugby School is the quintessential venue for cricket in the UK, but it also boasts outstanding playing facilities and the staff did everything to make us feel welcome. Tickets will go on-sale in the New Year and more details will be announced soon on www.edgbaston.com.”
Rugby School has hosted several Warwickshire Second XI fixtures in the past and the town has been a focus for the Warwickshire Cricket Board in the last year in a plan to increase participation levels in the town. Strong links have been built with local clubs and the Chance to Shine programme is taking place in local secondary schools in a bid to give more competitive cricket opportunities to pupils.
Patrick Derham, Headmaster of Rugby School, said: “There has been fantastic feedback from July’s inaugural match at Rugby School and hosting a Royal London One-Day Cup match in 2014 ensures that we have a full-day of cricket.
“We have the necessary infrastructure and supporters to make this an annual event and we look forward to welcoming the Warwickshire team back to Rugby School on 10th August for another great day of cricket.”
Tickets for Warwickshire v Kent on 10th August will again be available from Hope Clothing on Sheep Street in Rugby when tickets go on-sale in the New Year. More details will be released on www.edgbaston.com in due course.
