Woakes to Play in Big Bash League
Warwickshire and England all-rounder Chris Woakes has accepted an invitation to take part in the forthcoming Big Bash League in Australia in late December. His growing reputation as a top class all-rounder has ensured he will spend Christmas in Sydney after signing a short term T20 contract with Sydney Thunder in the forthcoming Big Bash tournament which features stars from world cricket.
Woakes, who made his England Test debut in 2013, will replace Tillakaratne Dilshan for matches against local rivals the Sydney Sixers on December 21st and Adelaide Strikers on December 27th.
Thunder General Manager Nick Cummins is delighted to see Woakes joining the Thunder Nation: "Getting a player of Chris' all-round ability is a major bonus for the Thunder. As someone who bowls with good pace and is more than capable of clearing the ropes with the bat, he will provide us with a high quality performer.
"He will play the first two matches for the Thunder alongside Eoin Morgan, and I know that he is excited about the prospect of playing in the Big Bash and helping the Thunder get off to a strong start in the competition."
