Edgbaston given award at Local Leagues Presentation Evening

Edgbaston was recently presented with a special award at the Local Leagues presentation evening, in recognition of hosting the Birmingham-based community tournament’s final for the last six years.

Local Leagues Cricket was founded by Balsall Heath residents in 2005 to provide an organised recreational competition for people living in deprived communities across Birmingham.

Seven years on, the tournament has grown from six to 32 teams that compete across its four divisions, with many more teams on the waiting list to join.

Nick Archer, General Manager of the Warwickshire Cricket Board, said: “Local Leagues Cricket is a fantastic tournament that gives more opportunities for keen cricketers to play the games, without the infrastructure and logistics of owning and maintaining a ground.

“We’re very supportive of the tournament, and have hosted its Finals Day for the last five years as part of our plans to give local community groups as many opportunities as possible to play at a world class venue like Edgbaston.”
