Edgbaston Hosts Final of Warwickshire Taverners Trophy
Keen cricket players and followers from across the West Midlands’ business community were recently welcomed to Edgbaston Stadium as the world famous venue hosted the Final of the Warwickshire Taverners Trophy.
Nineteen teams have taken part in this year’s tournament – which is played throughout the summer at Moseley Ashfield Cricket Club – with the Phoenix Group defeating Savills in the final at Edgbaston to take the title for the first time.
Trevor Law, Organiser of the Warwickshire Taverners Trophy and Director at Merito Financial Services, said: “The Warwickshire Taverners Trophy is a thriving midweek competition and we’re now reviewing the structure for 2014 to expand the tournament beyond the 19 teams that took part this year.
“The chance to play in the final at a world-class cricket venue, like Edgbaston, is a huge incentive for every amateur cricketer. We thank everyone for their involvement , particularly our tournament partners, and look forward to next year’s event.”
As well as being a competitive tournament amongst the region’s business community, the Warwickshire Taverners Trophy also raised more than £2,000 to support the work of the Lords Taverners, in giving more cricketing opportunities to disadvantaged and disabled young people.
Craig Flindall, Finance Director at Edgbaston, said: “The Warwickshire Taverners Trophy is one of the most popular corporate cricket tournaments in the region. We’re committed to giving local competitions the chance to flourish and it’s one of several tournament finals that we stage at Edgbaston, to enable more people to experience playing in one of the world’s most famous cricket venues.”
