Inter City Cup Team Ready for Finals
Birmingham’s Inner City Cup team will play Luton on Sunday at Aston Manor CC, 1pm in the National Final of the Lord’s Taverners City Cup.
The Cup is the brain child of the Sunday Telegraph’s Scyld Berry and is also backed by ECB. It’s a competition designed to unearth talent from the inner cities and give young people under 22 from urban areas an opportunity to profile their cricket.
Birmingham had its own league, which was played at Trinity Road in Aston and, from that competition, a composite side was selected to face Wolverhampton in the quarter final and then Bradford in the semi.
The youngsters have responded well to the guidance of coaches such as Khalid Sadiq, Rawait Khan and Kadeer Ali and now the Warwickshire Cricket Board wishes them all the best as they represent our biggest City in the Final.
Wasim Khan and Ateeq Javid will be lending their support and making the presentations.
At the same time Local Leagues will have their finals at Edgbaston for what is usually a fantastic day’s cricket.
And on Saturday the Birmingham Cricket League (Parks) will run a big day of grass roots finals on the County Ground too.
These occasions will provide a wonderful opportunity for talented Birmingham cricketers to show their talent. Entrance is free at all the events.
