Bell Takes Compton Miller Award for Ashes Player of the Series
Warwickshire’s own Ian Bell was named as only the fifth cricketer ever to win the prestigious Compton Miller Award at The Oval yesterday, which is given to the Man of the Investec Ashes Series.
Bell scored centuries in each of England’s victorious Test Matches in this summer’s Ashes and in turn became only the third Englishman to achieve the feat in a home series; Maurice Leyland in 1934 and David Gower in 1985 are the two others to achieve this.
In total, Bell scored 562 runs in 10 innings at average of 62.44, with the Aussies’ Shane Watson the nearest challenger with 428 runs at 41.8. He also took two catches and has moved up to eighth in the The Reliance ICC World Batting Rankings.
He hopes to be back in action at Edgbaston with fellow Bears Jonathan Trott and Chris Woakes on 11th September, when they again take on Australia in the third NatWest Series ODI.
Tickets are available now priced from £45 for Adults and from £15 for Juniors. Simply click here or call 0844 847 1902 to purchase.
