U17s Reach ECB One Day Cup Final
After winning the Midlands group, Warwickshire Under 17’s were drawn against Yorkshire in the semi finals of the ECB One Day Cup at Pudsey Congs Cricket Ground in Leeds.
Yorkshire won the toss and elected to bat on what was an excellent batting pitch with a quick outfield. Despite the pitch looking to favour the batters, a superb opening spell by Brinder Phagura (2-23) and Aaron Thomason (3-17) soon had the tykes in trouble with three early wickets to reduce Yorkshire to 33-3.
The change bowlers continued to apply pressure on the batters with Jake Salmon taking the important wicket of Barney Gibson and Paul Lawrence bowling as tight as ever (2-19).
Wickets continued to tumble throughout the innings with the spinners, Sunny Singh and Haris Ali also bowling well and despite the odd drop catch, the bears eventually bowled the home team out for 123.
The Warwickshire innings didn’t get off to a great start with the early loss of Jim Clifford, however that was the only set back as Matthew Lamb and Andy Umeed punished any loose bowling by the Yorkshire bowling as boundaries flowed freely from both batsman.
It was simply a superb batting performance by both players as Umeed (73*) and Lamb (46*) reached the Yorkshire target in just 19 overs with 31 overs to spare to win by 9 wickets.
Warwickshire will now play Kent or Devon in the final on September 1st at Kibworth CC.
