Warwickshire 2nd XI v MCC Young Cricketers


Day 3

Heavy overnight rain resulted in the match being abandoned as a draw on the final day

Day 2

Warwickshire took their first innings on to 462-4 dec on the second day with Ambrose 55*, Purchase 64* and Webb 33 while Chris Pieasley took 2-64 for the visitors.

In reply, MCC Young Cricketers went to lunch on 52-1 with Will Root dismissed by Tom Milnes for eight.

At tea the MCC were 246-3 before Travis Head made 102 from 129 deliveries before they declared on 327-5, trailing by 135 runs. there were two wickets for Tom Milnes and from Recordo Gordon, while Jon Webb picked up the fifth to fall.

By the close of the second day, Warwickshire were 16-1 with an overall lead of 138 and with Westwood back in the pavilion


Day 1

Warwickshire won the toss at Walmley C.C. and batted against the MCC Young Cricketers and Ian Westwood 131 with trialist Steve Leach 109, put on 224 for the first wicket; before Piesley had Westwood stumped by Scott McKechnie and then trapped Leach lbw.

Tom Lewis made 52 and by the close of the opening day, Warwickshire had reached 330-3 from 104 overs.



The Trophy match was played at Olton & West Warwickshire C.C. on a day interrupted by rain against the MCC Young Cricketers.

Batting first, Warwickshire reached 28-0 before rain brought a halt after just 4.3 overs and with the players taking an early lunch, there was no resumption until 2.25 p.m. with the match reduced to 37 overs per side.

Darren Maddy was run out for sixty eight while Paul Best 34 and Tom Milnes 33 from fifteen balls were the other top scorers as Warwickshire’s innings closed on 201-8 after further rain had reduced the match to 33 overs per side. Whittick, Dodd and Piesley each took two wickets for the Young Cricketers.

In reply the visitors were 1-1 after the opening over when the rain returned and after another break, the target of 180 to win from twenty four overs was recalculated.

With several good middle order contributions and a whirlwind forty six from twenty balls by Travis Head, the MCC almost made it, reaching 175-9 from their twenty four overs, losing by just four runs.

Steff Piolet 4-33, Recordo Gordon 3-24 and Tom Milnes 2-31 were the wicket takers for Warwickshire, who completed just their second victory of the season in the Trophy.
