Chopra Signs Three-Year Contract Extension with Warwickshire
Opening Batsman Varun Chopra has committed to LV= County Champions Warwickshire until at least the end of the 2016 season after signing a three-year contract extension for the Edgbaston club.
Chopra (26) has broken the 1,000 First Class runs milestone in three consecutive seasons for Warwickshire, with his 1,011 runs in 2013 including centuries for the Bears against the MCC, Somerset, Surrey and Middlesex.
Commenting on his new deal with the Bears, Varun, said: “Since joining from Essex I’ve enjoyed a great four years at Edgbaston, where the Club has won trophies and I’ve been able to contribute runs at the top of the order.
“We’ve got a strong squad, great coaching team and I’m looking forward to at least three more years here, where I hope to contribute towards winning more trophies for Warwickshire and its supporters.”
Dougie Brown, Warwickshire Director of Cricket, said: “Varun has been an instrumental member of the team since joining from Essex four years ago, and he has a proven record of scoring big runs in all formats of the game.
“He is a great role model for all the Warwickshire youngsters to aspire to and securing a player as highly thought of as him for the next three years is a massive boost for everyone connected with Warwickshire.”
Warwickshire next fixture is against Yorkshire in the LV= County Championship, starting on Friday 2nd August at Headingley.
