Edgbaston Awarded Additional t20 International Between England & India
Following the success of staging the ICC Champions Trophy in June, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has awarded Birmingham’s Edgbaston Stadium an additional NatWest t20 International between England and India in the summer of 2014.
Edgbaston, which accommodated almost 105,000 spectators across its five ICC Champions Trophy matches, including the Final, was already scheduled to host England’s NatWest Series ODIs against India and Sri Lanka in 2014. However, the additional match between this year’s ICC Champions Trophy finalists is a welcome boost to local cricket fans.
Colin Povey, Chief Executive of Edgbaston, said: “England have a fantastic record at Edgbaston and we’re thrilled to welcome them back to Birmingham, where they’ll certainly be looking to avenge their recent ICC Champions Trophy Final defeat when the they meet India again in this NatWest Series t20 International.
“The £32 million redevelopment of the stadium was designed to give the best possible cricket experience to players, spectators and officials in attendance on match days. The ICC Champions Trophy showcased these facilities on the world’s biggest stage and being allocated this match is a welcome reward to the fans who gave such great support and the fantastic efforts from the Edgbaston team throughout the tournament.”
Edgbaston was awarded the additional England v India NatWest t20 International after the fixture and an additional ODI between England and Australia is 2015* were returned by the Emirates Durham ICG earlier this year.
Later this summer, Edgbaston hosts Friends Life t20 Finals Day on Saturday 17th August and a NatWest Series ODI between England and Australia on Wednesday 11th September, with tickets available at www.edgbaston.com and through the 24-hour Ticket Hotline, 0844 847 1902.
