Warwickshire Stars Past and Present Unite in Memory of Abbers

Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s stars of the past and present come together at Knowle & Dorridge CC this coming Sunday as they do battle in memory of the Club’s former batting coach, Neal Abberley.

A Jim Troughton XI will face a Warwickshire Select XI formed of current stars such as Chris Woakes, Rikki Clarke and Jeetan Patel along with Bears’ legends, including Dougie Brown, Graeme Welch, Ashley Giles, and Gladstone Small.

Tickets for the match can be purchased in advance from the Shop at Edgbaston, priced at just £5 for Adults, £3 for Under 16s and Seniors, and £10 for a Family of four, with all funds being shared by the Warwickshire Old County Cricketers Association (WOCCA) and the Jim Troughton Benefit Year.

Jim Troughton, Captain of Warwickshire CCC, said: “Abbers made a massive impact on my career and is sadly missed by the many people who knew him and worked with him throughout his time with the Bears.

“Last year’s match was a fantastic occasion and the first time that players past and present came together in Abbers’ memory. We’re all looking forward to another great day and hope that many Bears fans will make the most of this opportunity to see so many Club legends on show again.”

Jason Ratcliffe, Chairman of WOCCA, said: “Abbers gave everything to Warwickshire CCC and it’s great to know that so many people who he worked with will be part of this very fitting tribute, which will also raise funds for two very worthy causes.”
