Sussex Sharks v Warwickshire Bears, Yorkshire Bank 40
Persistent rain an hour before lay was due to start at hove resulted in the match being reduced to twenty one overs per side when play finally got underway at 7.30p.m.
Sussex won the toss and put the Bears into bat and it was William Porterfield 8 who was first to go in the third over to a brilliant diving catch at slip by Jordan off Hatchett.
Jim Troughton then skied Jordan to Luke Wright and at 23-2 in the fourth over the Bears needed a partnership, which Tim Ambrose and Varun Chopra provided adding fifty one before Chopra was lbw to Yardy for twenty eight.
Ambrose 40 followed, pulling Liddle into the hands of Hatchett while Clarke 8 was bowled by Jordan.
It was Darren Maddy 49 from thirty seven balls with four fours and three sixes that took control of the final third of the innings, helping Warwickshire reach 157-7 from their twenty one overs with Maddy out off the final ball.
Chris Wright gave Warwickshire the perfect start when Sussex began their reply, taking two wickets in his first over , dismissing Nash and Hamilton-Brown to skied chances, before Joyce 31 and Wright 44 added seventy three in under nine overs to put the Sharks into a strong position.
Yardy 25 pulled Chris Wright to Darren Maddy on the deep mid-wicket boundary in the batting power play and with seventeen needed from the final over Rankin bowled Machan and then trapped Brown lbw with consecutive deliveries as Sussex closed on 149-7 nine runs short of their target for victory.
This was the Bears first victory in the competition this season ahead of the next match at New road, Worcester on Saturday.
