Cricket Fans Get Chance to Play on Edgbaston's Hallowed Turf

Cricket fans in Birmingham are in for a treat today, with Members and supporters in attendance at Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s LV= County Championship match against Durham having the chance to go on to Edgbaston’s hallowed turf during the lunch and tea breaks.

Colin Povey, Chief Executive of Warwickshire CCC, said: “Edgbaston is one of the most famous venues in world cricket and we want to give our Members and supporters a chance to see the playing surface close-up, and for youngsters to play their own softball games on the outfield when conditions permit.

“This is an initiative that the Club hasn’t done for many years, but our Head Groundsman Gary Barwell wants to make it a regular occurrence at as many fixtures as possible.”

Lunch is scheduled for 1pm today at Edgbaston with the tea interval set to be at 3.40pm. The initiative is set to be repeated tomorrow on Day 2.
