Two Academy Members to Debut for the Bears
LV= County Champions Warwickshire are giving First Class debuts to two Academy Members for the first time tomorrow, with Pete McKay and Shozair Ali named in the XI that take on Oxford MCCU in a three-day match at The Parks.
Pete (18) travelled with the Bears to Barbados and Abu Dhabi as deputy to Tim Ambrose and has been in Warwickshire’s Player Pathway system since the Under 10s age group. Seamer Shozair (20) joined the system aged 14 and represented England in last year’s Under 19s World Cup in Australia.
Dougie Brown, Director of Cricket at Warwickshire, said: “Having worked closely with Pete and Shoz in my former role as Academy Director, I’ve seen them develop into very talented cricketers. They’ve both worked very hard in pre-season and have earned the chance to make their First Class debuts.
“We’ve enjoyed a good build-up towards the start of the season so far with an excellent training camp in Barbados, a convincing First Class win in Abu Dhabi and several outdoor training sessions here at Edgbaston since returning. We’ll be looking to keep that momentum in the game against Oxford, which will be an excellent test for this young squad.”
