Bears Depart for Barbados
The Bears are on their way to Barbados after the full playing and coaching squad left Edgbaston by coach at 5am this morning bound for Gatwick Airport.
The 2013 training camp returns to Barbados for the third consecutive year, with two 40-over matches, one 2-day match and a minimum of two matches to be played in the T20 Barbados Cup.
Ahead of departing Edgbaston, Dougie Brown said: “Barbados has been the ideal pre-season tour for the Club for the last three years as we’re guaranteed great facilities, fantastic weather and competitive cricket; six counties are basing themselves on the island during this year’s tour.
“The squad have worked really hard indoors over the last few months, and we’re looking forward to welcoming back Chris Wright Rikki Clarke and Varun Chopra from the England Lions’ tour of Australia and stepping up our preparation outdoors for the new season.”
After training sessions at Windward CC on Wednesday (6th) and Thursday (7th) the Bears begin their preparations for the Yorkshire Bank 40 group stages on Friday (8th) and Sunday (10th) with 40-Over games against a Barbados XI.
They take on Hampshire in a two-day match on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th before facing Derbyshire Falcons in the T20 Barbados Cup, on Sunday 17th March, to determine whether they’ll play in the semi-final of the Cup or Plate on the following day.
The squad arrives back in the UK in the early hours of 19th March before a smaller squad departs to Abu Dhabi on the following day for the four-day Champions’ fixture against the MCC at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, which begins on Sunday 24th March.
